The force has awakened and it has awakened a legion of fans along with it. After Darth Vader, we have Kylo Ren as the face of the dark side and finally a Jedi from the better gender !! Ladies and Gentlemen, this is not a review but a fanboy writing his heart out. This is the best christmas gift ever and nothing can better this.

Thirty years after the events of the Return of the Jedi, there is a new threat to the galaxy in the form of First Order. They want to finish what the Empire couldn’t do i.e. destroy the Republic. Kylo Ren, with shades of Vader, has emerged as the biggest foe for the Republic. General Leia leads the Republic, without Han Solo on her side but here’s the catch ! Luke Skywalker has disappeared. I am dying to tell you what happens next, but I won’t. You have to watch it to feel the amazement that Star Wars is.

The Force Awakens stays close to the original trilogy and is full of odes to its previous story line. For some fans it might be irksome because they can feel a sense of déjà vu as the story follows the previous story arc loyally. It even borrows some of the elements and at times, becomes too easy on the viewer. For true-blue fans, it won’t be a reason to bother as it basically caters to the Star Wars obsessed fandom. The director Mr. JJ Abrams has taken up the mantle of George Lucas and has truly proven himself as his worthy successor. After proving his mettle with reinventing Star Trek, he shifts his attention towards Star Wars. Perhaps in the expectation of a backlash from the loyal fanbase, he chose to stay true to the original trilogy. So there is no out of the world plot twists and no oh-i-did-not-see-this-coming moments in the movie. There are some breathtaking action sequences with guns blazing all around. There is a brand new lightsaber, yay !! And it ends with a shocking sequence (which you have been expecting all the way !) . So all in all, a winner.

The movie introduces some new characters. Kylo Ren as the major antagonist, Snoke as the leader of the dark side, General Hux as the leader of the Starkiller base, Finn as the idealist stormtrooper, Poe Dameron as an ace pilot for the Resistance and the mysterious Rey with a sketchy flashback. It is particularly interesting as no previous versions of Star Wars tell the story, from the point of view of a stormtrooper. From the old cast members, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford reprise their roles of Leia and Han Solo respectively. We also get to see C3PO, R2D2 and a new cute droid, BB8.

Though it appears Mr. Abrams has shown his hand of cards too early in the game, but knowing him, it won’t be surprising to see some new twists in the next ones in the trilogy. We shall wait for Mr. Abrams ‘ brilliance to sparkle in episode VIII. Finally, even if you have not seen the original trilogy or the prequel trilogy, give it a shot. You are going to have the time of your life. On the behalf of the intergalactic family, I welcome you to the world of Star Wars.

May the force be with you…

P.S – I know, I know.. Couldn’t resist the temptation !!!
