The 91st Academy Awards were held at the Kodak Dolby Studios on 24th Feb 2019. And as always, it had its fair share of brickbats, laurels as well as controversies. Rami Malek and Olivia Colman gave a heartfelt speech as they accepted their respective awards. Samuel ‘MF’ Jackson gave a thunderous and rousing welcome to Spike Lee, as his name was announced for the very first time, for an Oscar. In his speech, Spike Lee urged everyone to ‘Do The Right Thing’ when it came to choosing the right leader. Some felt ‘Green Book’ wasn’t the right choice. As its name was announced for the Best Picture, Spike Lee got up from his chair and started moving to the end of the studio. During the speech, he even had his back turned towards the stage. Such was his contempt! Queen and Adam Lambert opened the Oscars with a fantastic tribute to Freddie Mercury. And when Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper performed ‘Shallow’ from ‘A Star Is Born’, everyone could see the sparks flying between the two. Some chemistry that was!
