The second half of 2019 is all about the big blockbusters lining up for the rest of the year. It also marks the comeback of the directors like Quentin Tarantino. A heavy mix of Superheroes, Sci-fi, Animation, Motion captures, Action thrillers, Drama and Horror, the list promises to be full of entertainment. Check out the list of the most anticipated films of 2019 – Part 2

Please note that the list is not indicative of any type of ranking. For Part -1 of this list, please click here.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix – 7th June 2019

Jean Gray, arguably the most powerful mutant of them all, becomes the dark phoenix, perhaps as a result of Professor Charles Xavier’s one of a questionable decision. A film on a similar theme was also made as ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’, where Jean Gray/Dark Phoenix was played by Famke Janssen. ‘The Last Stand’ was apparently so badly made, that Fox decided to wipe it out of the timeline, through the events of ‘Days Of Future Past’. Having gone through multiple rounds of scrutinisation, ‘X-Men – Dark Phoenix’ seems to be a game changer. Directed by Simon Kinberg, it stars Sophie Turner in the lead role, along with Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Micheal Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence. ‘X-Men – Dark Phoenix’ releases on 7th June 2019.

Men In Black: International – 14th June 2019

The men in black are back after the time travelling adventure in the seventies, only this time, the agents are different. A spin-off of the original series, played by Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, is back to save the world from intergalactic scums. Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson join the mad cap adventure of the alien fighting secret agency, along with Liam Neeson. Directed by F Gary Gray, ‘MIB-International’ releases on 14th June 2019.

Toy Story 4 – 21st June  2019

The talking toys are back! Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Bo Peep are coming back after a long hiatus of nine years, to make us laugh and cry. The trailers didn’t reveal anything about the story, but they did come up with three new characters, Forky – a toy made of plastic cutlery, Ducky and Bunny – the two carnival prize toys at the fair. One of the most successful Disney-Pixar franchises, ’Toy Story-4’ seems to be a sure shot winner at the box office. It releases on 21st June 2019.

Spiderman: Far From Home – 5th July 2019

Well, the myth has been resolved. Spiderman, who was last seen turning into dust, in Iron Man’s arms is alive and kicking. At least, releasing the promo right before ‘Avengers-End Game’’s release, kind of destroys the myth. And it’s odd to see Samuel ‘MF’ Jackson meeting Peter Parker for the first time in the trailer, whereas in the ‘End Game’, they are supposed to meet, during the course of action. Whatever it may be, but the trailer looks kickass with Jack Gyllenhaal joining the cast as the chief antagonist Mysterio. ‘Spiderman-Far From Home’ releases on 5th July, coinciding with the Independence Day holiday.

The Lion King – 19th July 2019

‘The Lion King’ is probably one of the most widely seen Disney animated movies of all time. The epic tale of Simba, the Cub who went on to become the king which has gone on to be made into a Broadway musical show, tells that story still has potential. After the stupendous success of ‘The Jungle Book’, Disney once again hands over the reins into the able hands of Jon Favreau to tell the story of a future king, who overcomes betrayal and tragedy to assume his rightful place at the Pride Rock. Donald Grover plays Simba with James Earls Jones reprising his role from the 1994 film, as Mufasa and Chiwetel Eijofor as Scar, the treacherous brother of king Mufasa.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood – 26th July 2019

Set in the year 1969 Los Angeles, Rick Dalton (played by Leonardo Di Caprio) and his stunt double Cliff Booth (Played by Brad Pitt) are struggling in their respective careers, as there is a wind of a change in the contemporary Hollywood. And also, did I mention Sharon Tate is Rick’s neighbour! Based on the infamous Charles Manson murders that rocked Hollywood in 1969, ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’ is directed by Quentin Tarantino, who will be back after his last outing ‘The Hateful Eight’. Other than Dicaprio and Pitt, the film stars a plethora of A-list cast that includes Al Pacino, Kurt Russell, Bruce Dern and Margot Robbie. Originally scheduled to release on August 9th, the day Sharon Tate was murdered, it now releases on 26th July 2019.

Fast and Furious Presents – Hobbs and Shaw – 2nd August 2019

One of the most profitable franchises of all time, ‘The Fast And Furious’ finally decide to go away from the oft-repeated’ theme of the entire family coming together for one last heist (Whatever that means!). Lawman Luke Hobbs and mercenary Deckard Shaw form an uncomfortable alliance to stop a cyber-genetically advanced terrorist called the Brexton. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Jason Statham reprise their roles as Hobbs and Shaw and Idris Elba joins the crew as Brexton. The action packed thriller releases on 2nd August 2019.

It: Chapter Two – 6th September 2019

Twenty-seven years after the events at the summer of 1989, the evil clown Pennywise comes back to traumatise the members of the Loser’s club. The losers return to Derry, to finish it once and for all, where terror began in the first place. Starring Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Hader and Chiwetel Eijofor, ‘It-Chapter Two’ promises to be two times deadly and scary with Bill Scarsgard reprising his role of Pennywise. Directed by Andy Muschietti, ’It-Chapter Two’ releases on the 6th September 2019.

Joker – 4th October 2019

Now that it has been established that late Heath Ledger’s Joker stands as the numero uno portrayal of the crown prince of crime, it is really difficult to see somebody else in the Joker’s attire. Jared Leto did his best in the ‘Suicide Squad’ yet he could never match with the freakiness that the late Ledger brought in. Now that Joaquin Phoenix is all set to portray the Joker, the world waits with bated breath to see it. Directed by Todd Philips, deemed as the origin story of the Joker, a failed stand up comedian who rises to be a psychopathic murderer, it releases on the 4th October 2019.

Star Wars – Episode IX – 20th December 2019

In a galaxy far far away, we’re yet again getting ready to see another episode of the Star Wars! Continuing the story from the ‘Last Jedi’, where we saw (Spoilers Alert!) Luke Skywalker sacrificing himself to be with the force, the story will now focus on the lives of Rey and Kylo Ren and their fight to finish, as they both gear up for their respective sides, The Force and The Dark Side. Directed by JJ Abrams, the unnamed ‘Episode IX’ promises to be action-packed, just like its predecessors. What remains to be seen, is whether it is just another Star Wars film or not!
