An Indo-German production, ‘Qissa’ is a tale set during the partition of 1947, that gave rise to two countries- India and Pakistan.
It’s the story of Umber Singh, who desperately seeks a male child, after three of his earlier children are born as girls.
Upon the birth of the fourth girl, the father in a state of self-denial, proclaims it as a boy and fosters as one.
As the girl, disguised as a boy grows up, her struggle with her identity begins to mirror Umber’s desperation.
Premiered at the TIFF 2013, this film received glowing reviews from critics all around.
